Esme underwear is intentionally made up of Seacell, Tencel Lyocell and Elastane.

Seacell:

SeaCell is rich in minerals, antioxidants, vitamins, and amino acids, making it good for your skin. SeaCell is sourced from the Icelandic Fjords using sustainable and regenerative practices; then cellulose and organic brown seaweed is spun into yarn.

Health Benefits at a Glance:

  • Hypoallergenic
  • Anti-odor
  • Moisture-regulating
  • Breathable
  • Ultra soft and gentle
  • Even more absorbent than cotton
  • Rich in antioxidants and vitamins
  • Biodegradable and compostable
  • Great for sensitive skin or those with skin conditions like eczema

The trace elements in Seacell has been well known since Chinese medicine, which protects the skin with their anti-inflammatory properties.

The way SeaCell is structured allows active exchange of nutrients (like calcium, magnesium and Vitamin E) between the fiber and the skin, which is released by the body’s moisture when worn. The antioxidants and amino acids in SeaCell react with free radicals in the skin, which reduces skin damage. Extensive studies have been done to prove this and the results are the following: “free radicals are asymmetric electrons, which are produced in the body metabolic processes, and grab the normal cells of electronic to balance. Excessive free radicals will damage the body. The test proves that SeaCell fabric can eliminate free radicals.” Many other tests by third party labs have been done to prove each of these health benefits, and each claim has been confirmed by internationally recognized laboratories and university clinics.

Gynecologists recommend women wear breathable underwear to help prevent yeast infections and UTIs. SeaCell has proven to be very breathable plus it's even more absorbent than cotton, naturally antibacterial, moisture-wicking, and odor-repellant.

Lastly, our fabric is actually certified as safe to use for baby products which essentially means it has gone through very strict testing that your normal underwear (and other fabrics you wear) do not go through.

Tencel Lyocell:

We are proud to have sourced Tencel Lyocell from Lenzing, a leader in sustainability!

There are also a number of benefits of Tencel Lyocell in addition to it being eco-friendly. The first is that it’s very soft and smooth to the touch. It’s also gentle on the skin and it is efficient in moisture management, contributing to breathability. It’s unfavorable to bacterial growth and it’s 50% more absorbent than cotton. Lastly, Tencel Lyocell allows you to feel cool and dry.

Elastane:

Elastane is what's used to make underwear stretch and maintain its shape over time, even after many washes. It is used in order to increase the performance of underwear so the garment life is longer.
